Argentium™
The Finest Silver
The alloy of Sterling Silver, by law, must contain at least 92.5% fine silver. The remaining metals traditionally have been copper and nickel. The Argentium™ Sterling Silver alloy has at least 93.5% fine silver. Most of the copper and all of the nickel have been removed and replaced with Germanium. This composition creates a brighter and harder metal with a superior tarnish resistance compared to standard sterling silver. The added Germanium forms as an oxide on the surface of the silver in preference to copper oxide (tarnish) giving Argentium™ protection from tarnish and added luster. This nickel-free alloy requires minimal maintenance.
Argentium™ Care
The Argentium™ Sterling Company recommends the use of Goddard’s Long Shine Jewelry Cloth for Argentium™ Sterling Silver and suggests a separate cloth be reserved for Argentium™ use only. These cloths contain “thiols” that form a strong chemical bond with Argentium™ giving it strong surface protection.
After wearing or cleaning, wipe with a Goddard Long Shine Jewelry cloth. If your piece loses luster from wear, wash to remove body oils with Joy Non-ultra Detergent, rinse and dry. Avoid cleaners, ionized water, harsh cleaning chemicals and chlorine. Do not use any commercial sterling silver polish or cleaner on Argentium™. Store Argentium™ in the open to expose it to oxygen.
