14/20 Gold Fill

14/20 Gold Fill is sometimes used as an accent to Argentium™ Sterling Silver, in Blue Heron Creations’ jewelry. Gold Filled metal is made by permanently bonding a layer of 14kt Gold. Do not confuse this process with gold plating because Gold Fill has 100 times more the amount of 14kt Gold than plating.

Gold Fill is strong, durable, and resistant to tarnish. It will not flake off. Many antique pieces, especially watches, are made from 14 kt gold filled metal. To carry the label “Gold Filled”, it must be at least 1/20th (by weight) 14kt gold. The result is a metal that looks and wears like 14 kt gold buy is much more affordable.

To care for your gold filled jewelry, store on a soft cloth or cotton to avoid scratching it. To remove body oils and brighten up the jewelry clean with Goddard’s Jewelry Cleaner or Joy Detergent.
